Cynthia Allen and I, Valerie Harper, have agreed to lead the Hoggetowne PTG (Parent Teacher Group) as Co-Presidents.  This will take a little coordination and  initiative but we feel a great need in our school.  There are some immediate concerns and some long term endeavors we MUST as parents undertake in order for our children to thrive in middle school and for the wonderful environment that our school offers to survive!
 
We recently had a parents meeting and we wish to congratulate each of you parents,grandparents and friends that attended!  We hope to see many more at the next meeting and intend to beg, plead and coerce all the rest of the parents to attend and to become involved. I was moved to tears at the meeting to hear that our teachers and administration are struggling so mightily to shoulder the huge amount of responsibilities they have and all without much help.  It is time for ALL OF US to become involved.  Our teachers and staff are putting in double the time that their normal Alachua County counterparts do.  WHY?  BECAUSE THEY CARE SO MUCH ABOUT THE JOB THEY DO AND OUR CHILDREN.  I think that each of us can give of little of our time and/or energy to help.  
 
We need volunteers.  We need cookie bakers.  We need Saturday school helpers.  We need field trip drivers. We need field trip chaperones. We need someone to read to kids and help them to read.  We need theatre help.  We need you to care!   It doesn't take much and many of us are working at least one job so even if you can only give a little - we will take it and thank you!  

Middle school is a rough time for many of our kids and being involved with them on the school level will only help them and their struggle to grow.  They may say they don't want you there - DON'T believe it!  They may say it but when it comes down to it many studies show that children are more stable middle schoolers when parents stay involved and the children are actually glad the parents are there - they won't admit it but they are. 

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stay involved, volunteer at Hoggetowne, make an effort to get involved, show up with treats for the teachers, goodies for the kids, attend the parent meetings, MAKE A DIFFERENCE AND JOIN THE PTG!! It only costs $5 and if there is a problem with dues please email or call one of us, we can help!  ASK HOW YOU CAN HELP!
